Seasonal Controls on Sediment Delivery and Hydrodynamics in a Vegetated Tidally Influenced Interdistributary Island

River deltas are maintained by a continuous supply of terrestrial sediments that provide critical land building material to help sustain and protect vulnerable ecological communities serve as natural storm protection barriers. Local hydrodynamics important in determining the degree which fluvial removed from water column retained on delta complex. During 2014, we measured sediment transport characteristics at one world's most rapidly prograding deltas, Wax Lake Louisiana, USA. We observed waves be dominant source bottom stress for 70% our observations. Sediment concentration tended increase with shear stress, but only after stresses exceeded 0.01–0.02 Pa. Significant wave height were substantially reduced June, when emergence American lotus (Nelumbo lutea) formed dense canopy over intertidal regions island splay. Hydrodynamics during these summer vegetated conditions much more favorable floc formation, extension particle settling, shown trends Kolmogorov microscale parameter course measurement campaign.
